WARWICK, R.I. – Former Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice and candidate for U.S. Senate, Judge Robert Flanders, released the following statement regarding the cynical partisanship of the Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s attempt to stonewall a solution for the current family separation policy of the Department of Homeland Security.
“Chuck Schumer and the grossly partisan Democrats showed their hand yesterday in a comment by Senate Minority Leader Schumer in his immediate dismissal of any attempt to end the family separation policy through bipartisan legislative efforts.
This naked gaming of people’s lives – innocent children among them – is a disgrace. This behavior by the Sen. Minority Leader is the reason why Washington is broken and the reason why Americans and Rhode Islanders don’t trust their elected representatives to act in the best interest of the people in our nation’s capitol.
I would call on Sen. Whitehouse to condemn Sen. Minority Leader Schumer for his gross and radical partisanship. Unfortunately, Whitehouse has a radical partisan agenda of his own, voting 95 percent of the time with Schumer, a person who couldn’t tell you where Narragansett Bay is, and who is captive to special interests, and bent on log-jamming our government and not moving our country forward.
Rhode Island needs a leader, not a partisan lapdog, in Washington D.C.
I am running to serve Rhode Island. We need someone who’s a problem-solver, rather than a partisan bomb-thrower. Let’s get to work and solve our country’s problems. As your next U.S. Senator, I will never forget the Rhode Island people I will be serving.
